Sumatra’s Mount Marapi Erupts Again

West Sumatra’s Mount Marapi ejected hot ash up to 600 meters into the air during a fresh set of eruptions on Tuesday morning.
Witnesses said the active volcano, which straddles Tanahdatar and Agam districts in West Sumatra, ejected material into the air several times between 6 a.m. and 8:30 a.m.
The increased activity follows a similar series of eruptions on Sunday.
Warseno, a local official monitoring the volcano, said the mountain was on Alert II status, on a scale of one to five, with five being the most dangerous.
A three-kilometer exclusion zone remained in force, Warseno said.
